Yep according to k-f\'s view order (their release order) four movies and 160 episodes were released before this ova 
Well add a few specials and whatnots as well

This is basicly a "pilot" episode. By that, I mean that it is the episode that gave people a taste of what One Piece would be like. It came out in 1998, while One Piece only started on air in 1999.

They released it to celebrate their (K-F's) third birthday on the 9th. Friday I believe.

This is an OVA that came out before the series was made by TOEI studios. This OVA is actually made by Production I.G. & Jusousha for a Shounen Jump festival in 1998, a year before TOEI released the series.
TOEI had just finished up DBGT around 1997/98, and One Piece was their new project. They took on the series after the release of this \"One Piece OVA\" produced by Production I.G. & Jusousha.
The name of this one is \"One Piece: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack!\"
This is very rare.

Somehow when i used winamp to play this ova, all the colours were inverted (except for white and black) so luffy was like, wearing blue shirt and red pants XD But windows media player fixed everything fine...
I'd say the ova is a lot better than the anime series... the art is slightly better than the series and the animation is more fluid. they should make much quality ovas rather than series... that;s one reason i rarely watch manga-turned-anime series... (my personal opinion)

It's an OVA, itz not really suppose to fit in the series, if u dont agree, then see like if Nico Robin or Chopper or other characters are in the crew

Well as far as I can tell it's after the Buggy arc and before the Kuro arc. They have Nami, but no Usopp.

Isnt above description for the 1st movie? According to both ANN and wiki, The OVA is:
"While Luffy and his crew of Zoro and Nami are starving on their small boat, they are attacked by a large monster. Nami is taken away, while Luffy and Zoro wash up on shore. There they meet a young girl, Medaka, and learn of the sad history of the island. The evil Pirate Ganzack has taken away all the men in the village and enslaved them, including Medaka's father. Now Luffy, Zoro, and Medaka must infiltrate Ganzack's base in order to rescue the villagers and Nami."

the descriptions sound the same but i think the fact about treasure hunting and saving an island are still two different concepts. but it is funny when cap.Luffy is hungry and willing to actually stretch for the food.
