Couldn't wait to see the whole thing to leave a comment. What a terrific show! It reminds me a bit of NGE (in a good way), not sure why, maybe it's the introspective mood accompanied by melancholy cello and piano! Anyway, just finished the 6th episode, the one about Scotch whisky. As a whisky fan myself -particularly single malt, and MOST particularly Laphroiag (and the other smoky Islays),I got a particular kick out of this, although I'm not sure that some the details aren't a bit muddled. For one thing, they refer to Scotch whisky being made from "malt", and others from grain; whisky is made from barley, malting is a process done to it. Strictly speaking, any grain can be malted. Well I don't mean this to be a lecture on whisky making and Scottish history, but I was intrigued by the "Aberdeen Angus" he makes at the end. I had never heard of it before, and a few minutes of research found me this page:

The writer of this page cites as his source a certain Michael Jackson -no not that one- who is a famous whisky expert. Bottom line,I think this is the source material for some of this episode! The glass pictured (I assume from Jackson's book) is very distinct and virtually identical to the one in the show. Some of the commentary on the drink too: both specifically mention warming up after hunting snow grouse! But both also specify that the drink is neither warm nor cold. Our bartender uses the first whisky recommended - Lagavullin - and both (at least in the subs of course) state that the Drambuie and honey "tame" the strong taste of the whisky. Curiously, the linked recipe prefers lime juice to lemon, which is used in Eden Hall. Well there ya are, I just a kick out of this and wanted to share.

So i guess i am the only one who fucking hates this pretentious pile of garbage?
It tries way too hard to be arty and it just comes off like a bad indie film.
Of course the fact that i despise alcoholic beverages in no way helps my opinion of this series.
