I'd like to third the point that Midhras is a man? 
I finished this story years ago, and a sweet memory of K-i K-ichi's charm and the artist's unique art still remain. The story had something to say about the Uglies of an administration gorging itself empty on its own authority & resources, the Even Uglier Uglies of people allowing themselves to be exploited & risking their lives on a reality game show for the sake of their own inane wishes, and the Oogliest Uglies of them all -- the people that sit idly in their homes watching such things happen (quite literally since they all gotz teh TV). Then again, it's been a couple of years so maybe I'm completely wrong. I mostly read it for the Pretties, the art of Katou Shinkichi.
After devouring large amounts of the typical styles presented by shoujo, shounen, and their subgenre offspring, I didn't know I was sick of their eye candy till I had a taste of the delicious crack Katou was offering. National Quiz's art probably won't send you to new heights of enlightenment or ecstasy, but it's a refreshing change from much of what's served.
