I must say I'm shocked that anyone can find enjoyment in this series. My least favorite Gundam by far. Well, it was a nice attempt at some drama and a change of pace, but it was just terrible drama. The main character (child) was incredibly unlikable and his mentor was just an idiot. Now, I will say that the ending is nice and saves the show from being an complete waste of time. The best thing about this, honestly, is its short length. Even if you hate it, you don't have much left to suffer through.

if you're into the newer gundam stories (full of bishonens, overpowered robots, no real value for solid storytelling) then get as far away from this ova as you can.
seriously, this is an example of the type of stories gundam should be telling instead of trying to sell toys all the time.

Copy and Pasted from a youtube comment since I'm not good with words:
"Perhaps the most depressing Gundam show ever. Whats amazing about this show and proves how good it really is is that its only six episodes long, demonstrates the futility of war, and has such an incredible impact on whoever watches it. One person dies in this show and it means everything. A thousand people could die in Wing or Seed and its meaningless."
No idea who the original poster is since everyone just reposts this and try to get thumbs up.

I disagree. What you see as "terrible drama" I found it endearing. The show had a lot of heart and it's actually a breath of fresh air that a Gundam series shifts focus from the military and political sides of the spectrum towards the carefree masses which the franchise has continued to ignore to this day.
Also, you needn't to like the characters to show that they were important to the plot. All the characters played their roles as they should. It would've been unbelievable if Al the child got the GAR ala Simon from Gurren Laggan. You were obviously expecting too much Gundam out of a not so Gundam show.
