I love this film. It's pure Oshii (which means it's slow-paced, has a complicated plot, and has at least one shot of a helicopter above the city swooping into frame) so don't watch if you're not in the mood for that kind of thing.

Except Oshii didn't direct it. That's correct. Oshii didn't technically direct but he did create the original work and then wrote the original story and screenplay for the film. Oshii had originally planned on directing the film himself but chose Hiroyuki Okiura (with whom he had worked with on several prior works including Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor 2) to direct later in the pre-production process.
While Okiura may have, to a certain extent, molded this film to suit his particular vision as director, it does not change that this is still very much an Oshii film.

Looks nice will download and seed It IS nice. If you liked Grave of the Fireflies you will like this one as well since the scenario is quite similar.
And I have to agree on how much this movie is underrated.
