Interesting to note that some of the most amazing things in human (his)story are indeed obscure. I knew Tesla was gonna be in this as soon as I loaded the page. Read the description and yup, there he is. Tesla is indeed the most 'famous' cult figure that nobody's ever heard of. Now he's been played by Bowie in the great film "The Prestige", a few more people will know his name but annoyingly the film (predictably) makes use of his 'mystical' and exaggerated side whilst the world still forgets that he 'invented' (at least brought about the earliest practical applications of) the most efficient transmission of electricity, the long-distance transference of wireless communication (i.e. telephone and radio - consequently television and internet) the most efficient electrical motors, and apparently the earliest 'automaton' in a remote controlled ship (which lead to the invention of torpedoes and I guess all other remote control devices, and of course robotics cybernetics... &c). Not to mention science fiction, although sci fi had been around for a while before Tesla's birth in the mid 1800s, his work accelerated human development into the 20th century without which we wouldn't have the sci-fi stories which have contributed to our burgeoning imagination. I look forward to see how he is portrayed in this manga.
For anyone reading this page I strongly recommend you read a biography of Tesla, you simply understand so much about history afterward, it's really literally a crime that he's been erased from schoolbooks whilst everyone knows the names of truly great, though inferior (in a visionary not a practical sense) men like Marconi and Edison. I have read and recommend "Wizard: The Life and Times of Nicola Tesla" by Schiffer - it's not perfect but it's one of the most recent, detailed and helps to dispel the various myths about the great man. Also check out the short film inspired by this book on Google video where you can download it as well. (the literal search you can use is "wizard tesla site:google.com". Aslo check out the Fleischer animation Superman with the mad scientist and the robots - the mad scientist IS Tesla in this film. The robots are what inspired Miyazaki's robot designs in LAPUTA, and one of the robots in Evangelion. Anyway I'm sure that's enough of a history lesson for now...
