I think we should replace it. We have the 720p version of Thora and apparently, Thora used AF-F&F-B's subs, iirc.

Ouch, eye-cancer inducing screenshots in the right-hand column! Oversharpened = artifacting galore. Am I glad I immediately got the AF-F&F-B version. Phew!

Thora used AF-F&F-B's subs, iirc.You sure it wasn't IY-F&oki's subs that Thora used? I watched Thora's version a while back and there were a noticeable amount of misspellings and overall fuckups in their subs. The main reason why this is replacing the IY-F&oki version is because of "spelling mistakes and awkward wording", which is exactly what I found in Thora's release. It was a shame too, because I enjoyed the series. The subs just detracted from the whole experience. Even now when I think of Paradise Kiss, all I can do is relate the series to how awful the subs were. T__T;
Either way, AF-F&F-B has better subs than IY-F&oki in those screenshot comparisons. Cleaner video, too. I'm thinking of downloading it.

The typo's you spotted could be from AF-F&F-B, because THORA does claim to have used their subs. Their timing seems to be not so good though as AF-F&F-B's. THORA does admit to having failed somewhat with episode 12, that one was done in a hurry and uses modified IY-F&oki subs, or so they said.
It depends on how they got the subs. If they OCR'ed them, well, I guess they could've introduced the misspellings and such themselves.

More "sub-rich" comparisons can be provided, but I would like some pointers as to what kind of scenes would be best.

Yes, THORA OCR'd them, AF-F&F-B had a policy of hardsubbing and not releasing scripts. Also, AF-F's episode 12 was only released long after THORA got their batch out, which is why using IY-F&Oki's translation for the last episode was their only choice at that point.

Wow... the differences are crazy and yet why do people prefer the AF-FB one??Encoding-wise because it's true to the source and looks better to an encoder's eye. IY-F&Oki used gratuitous amounts of artificial sharpening and line darkening.
Subtitle-wise because it was translated and edited by native speakers of Japanese and English, respectively, as opposed to IY-F&Oki's translation which featured some guesswork.

IY-F&oki seems to have more spelling mistakes and awkward wording. I'll leave the styling/typesetting out of it, because that's highly personal.
Regarding image quality: I've read that the IY-F&oki video is sharper due to extra sharpening and contrast work whilst the AF-F&F-B release is more true to the raw with regard to the colors.
Let's see if it can be determined which is the better release for BakaBT.
